Do You Really Need A Conditioning Treatment?

Feb 24, 2023

A conditioning treatment will help all hair types stay healthy, shiny and manageable. Everyone can benefit, but dry, frizzy, brittle and damaged hair will obviously benefit the most.

Conditioning Treatment to Restore Moisture

Look for products marked specifically for dry or frizzy hair. These will help the moisture balance of the hair and help prevent that out of control frizziness. Apply to mid-lengths and ends only.

Brittle and Damaged Hair

You probably want to ramp your product up a little if your hair is distressed. Dry, brittle and damaged hair has likely been either over processed, had too much sun or been exposed to excessive use of heated styling tools to chemical treatments. Look for a treatment that has strengthening benefits, too.

A great choice here is Oribe Intense Conditioner for Moisture and Control.

Top Tips for applying treatments

Applying a conditioning treatment is – and isn’t – as easy as simply slapping it over your hair. Technique makes all the difference in getting the best results. With this in mind, we recommend you:

  • Only use a product that’s been designed for your hair type.
  • Avoid applying to the roots and scalp (unless it specially id for scalp health). Otherwise, you risk weighing the hair down and creating scalp issues.
  • Apply to mid-lengths and ends of damp hair, gently raking it through with your fingers.
  • Use a wide tooth comb to ensure even distribution.
  • Secure hair loosely on the top of your head using a butterfly clip.
  • Don’t secure it too tightly, as wet hair is vulnerable to breakage, especially if it is pulled tightly.
  • Cover your hair with a shower cap. This will help generate heat and therefore help the treatment penetrate the hair strand.
  • Only leave on for hte specified amount of time, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Try not to blow-dry on the day of your treatment. Give your hair a break and allow it to air-dry.
  • Apply your treatment up to two or three times a week, depending on the health of your hair.
