Anna Antal is the fashion-child of designer Michelle Tucker, whose grandmother fled a war-torn Hungary in 1956. Given current world events, Michelle wanted her show to be imbued with hope and optimism. What resulted was a joyous kaleidoscope of colour, silhouette skimming fabrics and dreamy designs.
Michelle told Grazia magazine, “When Russia invaded Hungary in 1956, my grandmother was severely affected by the atrocities of war.” The family fled her war-torn home country and opened a boutique in Melbourne, Australia in 1960.
“When the war broke out in the Ukraine recently, I didn’t know if it was appropriate to present a collection that encouraged feelings of optimism and celebration. But after much thought and consideration, I realised that war had already taken so much from my grandmother and family. I wasn’t going to allow it to take this opportunity from me.”
Afterpay Australian Fashion Week – Anna Antal Show Hair Direction
Hair director Julianna McGuigan was briefed to create styles that reflected polished women with a bohemian lifestyle. There was a nod to the 1960s, with a modern feel. A vacation-style texture that was clean and weightless.
To achieve this look, Julianna, Sabrina and the team used Oribe’s Maximista Thickening Spray, which creates a light, fluffy texture. The idea was to create a look of a woman who was on vacation in Marrakesh and simply thrown her hair up for dinner.
Other hero products used include Oribe’s Foundation Mist and Supershine Moisturising Cream.
And what a result!
Sabrina says of the experience: “It’s always an honour to be present in these kind of industry events, There is a buzz that runs through the entire city. To be apart of such a creative team is always inspirational. Roll on next year!”
Let’s give Sabrina a big round of applause for her incredible work in this year’s Afterpay Australian Fashion Week.
